How secure are my files with Disk & Tape?

Very. To protect our customers and their data, we employ the following layers of security:

  1. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): We use this method to prove the account ownership.
  2. Data encryption: Your data is encrypted before leaving your computer (and we don't know the encryption keys).
  3. Your passwords are salted and hashed. Even if they weren't, stealing your password wouldn't help decrypting your data because the encryption keys are not protected by the password — as we don't have them, at all.

What is 2FA?

Two-Factor Authentication, or 2FA, is an extra layer of protection used to ensure the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password. You will be asked for a unique code (generated by an authenticator app) every time you log in.

What is data encryption?

Data, or plaintext, is encrypted with an encryption algorithm and an encryption key. The process results in ciphertext, which only can be viewed in its original form if it is decrypted with the correct key.

What is not encrypted?

How to recover the lost encryption key?

If the encryption key is lost, we will not be able to help you recover it. Maintaining any backup copies of the encryption key is your responsibility.

What is an API key?

An application programming interface (API) key is a code used to identify and authenticate an application or user. API keys are available through platforms, such as a white-labeled internal marketplace. They also act as a unique identifier and provide a secret token for authentication purposes.

Do you use Google Analytics or any other web analytics services?

Yes. We use Google Analytics to track user behavior on our website. Google Analytics works by relying on a small bit of Javascript Code that is placed on our website. This code is activated when visitors arrive on our site.

Do you collect my personal information?

We don′t and we can′t. Everything uploaded to our cloud (with the sole exception of information required for billing purposes) is encrypted on the client side with your private keys.

Do you share my personal information?

No. Unlike some other companies, we do not earn money by selling your personal data. We earn money by selling our product.
